Roster Eligibility
To ensure standardized, high quality of service to the public, Children's Aid Societies in Ontario must use Child Protection Roster Mediators that have attained Child Protection Mediator accreditation at an approved educational institution and have been certified for inclusion on the Ontario Child Protection Mediator Roster, which is made publicly available on this website. Oversight for the Ontario Child Protection Mediaion Roster is being provided by the Ontario Association for Family Mediation.
Requirements
Children’s Aid Societies are not required to verify these qualifications or requirements when selecting a child protection mediator from the provincial Ontario Child Protection Mediation Roster.
A child protection mediator on the provincial roster has satisfactorily completed the Child Protection Mediation Training AND has the following prerequisites:
- Current Accreditation by the Ontario Association for Family Mediation (O.A.F.M.) - Acc.FM (OAFM)
OR
- Certification by Family Mediation Canada - FMC Cert .
OR
A Child Protection Mediator eligible for inclusion on the provincial roster, has also demonstrated:
- a professional degree or diploma in the social services or children’s services;
- at least 60 hours of training in family mediation (to include 20 hours of skill based mediation training);
- at least 10 family law cases mediated to the point of agreement with Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
- it is strongly recommended that at least 15 hours of training in Domestic Violence cases has been taken
- professional liability insurance;
- a satisfactory criminal record check completed within the last three years; and
- three satisfactory professional references to include (2) two references from persons the applicant has either mediated with (co-mediated) or who have referred a client to the applicant for a mediation, together with their contact information. IMPORTANT: Please note that the references associated with actual mediations must be related to mediations involving family or child protection cases AND IT MUST BE CLEARLY INDICATED WHICH CRITERIA (Family, co-mediation, referral) IS APPLICABLE TO THE REFERENCE.
Finally, A Child Protection Mediator certified for inclusion on the provincial roster has also:
- signed a copy of the Application Form, which includes a declaration that the applicant is adhering to the Code of Ethics;
- signed a Declaration form; and
- submitted an administration fee of $100 (see Registration process)
